Linwood Reads

Linwood Reads is our at-home reading incentive program that provides rewards and motivation for at-home reading required as part of a student’s nightly homework. Students are required to read at home every night as part of their regular homework. Students choose books and read at their independent level. They take computerized comprehension quizzes through Accelerated Reader to monitor their reading. For each book read, a student is awarded points based on the length and complexity of the book. Linwood Reads then provides monthly celebrations to reward students who have reached their monthly goals (students in Kindergarten and 1st grade will complete reading logs). When students accumulate their yearly reading points goal, they are invited to an End-of-Year AR Extravaganza!

Accelerated Reader is a beneficial program because it motivates students and allows teachers to understand how well students comprehend what they read. Reading is not just saying words and turning pages. Reading is the understanding of what words mean and seeing events of a book unfold in your mind.
